She Attended the Microsoft HBCU CONNECT Event for Black Tech Professionals and Was Hired Immediately! (25306 hits)

On June 18th, 2020, Microsoft and HBCU CONNECT partnered to host an online virtual hiring event for Black Software Engineers and Program Management professionals.

This was just one of a series of events hosted by Microsoft in 2020 that have resulted in more African American and Black candidates accepting jobs with the Software Giant.

Already, in just the first half of 2020, Microsoft and HBCU CONNECT have partnered on 6 such events targeting engineers and program management professionals, which has resulted in hundreds of African American professionals getting a closer look at Microsoft, and Microsoft also getting a closer look at talented diverse professionals, like Demetria.
"I am an experienced Sr Software engineer professional living in the Atlanta area. While I am not an HBCU graduate, HBCU Connect reached out to me to attend the HBCU CONNECT Hiring Event in Austin, TX. Due to Covid 19 the conference was hosted virtually by the CSEO Microsoft Team. I attended the event and began the interview process the same week. Microsoft made a job offer on August 10 for the role of Operations Program Manager."

Demetria has been passionate about servant leadership since she migrated to Atlanta. As a leader in the community for National Black MBA Association (Vice President, Records), American Cancer Society (Executive Leadership Council), Junior League of Atlanta (Fundamentals Committee), United Way AAP, Cabinet Member, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women, NWGA (Education, Co-Chair) she has volunteered countless hours in recruitment for new professional members to all organizations. She was honored in the 2016 Who’s Who in Black Atlanta 16th Edition and received the Leaders of Excellence Award from E3 Magazine.

Demetria received a Bachelor of Applied Science from Mercer University and Wesleyan College awarded her an Executive Master of Business Administration.

Demetria reported back to HBCU CONNECT with the good news that she had been made an offer after interviewing with Microsoft as a result of the event.

There are also many Latino professionals that have taken advantage of the diversity hiring events hosted by HBCU CONNECT, but the organization is primarily tapped by companies desperately looking to hire Black candidates.

As a part of the normal process, candidates submit their resumes to HBCU CONNECT through an event landing page and the team at HBCU CONNECT reviews the candidates and shares event details for those that are a fit for openings at Microsoft.

Let's congratulate Demetria on the new opportunity, and also a big congratulations to Microsoft for not only hiring the best and brightest, but continuing their focus on hiring HBCU Graduates, and Black Professionals open to new career opportunities!

The next HBCU CONNECT Microsoft Virtual hiring event will be for an expanding software development team in the Atlanta area on September 17th.
